Lucky Charms Graph

My favorite St. Patrick's Day activity is to graph Lucky Charms marshmallows with my math students. The students love, love, love this activity!

First, I make baggies for each student. I find that separating the cereal into 2/3 cup portions works well. The bag shown here and used for the graph is a 2/3 cup portion.

The students use the sorting sheet to put their shapes into categories. I find this particular sorting sheet works well because it has pictures of each shape. For too many years I walked around answering, "Which shape is this? What does a shooting star look like?"

Then, the students graph their amounts and label the scale of the graph. They answer the questions on the worksheet while they compare amounts. I never have to tell them to talk about their results, this just happens naturally. Love it!

Finally, my students have the option to eat their cereal dry, or can have some milk to go with it. I bring in small plastic bowls, milk, and spoons for the class as an additional surprise. They usually pick this option because it's something different and fun! They often say, I had breakfast twice today!

You can find this activity in my TpT Store, along with other fun March math and reading activities!

Happy teaching!
Amber
