My rockstar teacher friend, Catdogteaches, and I came up with a plan that incorporated all of the 100th day fun for our math kids, but required them to use their multiplication skills to complete the task. We put a blank 10 x 10 grid on the Smartboard with no products filled in the answer boxes. The products for all 100 multiplication problems were written on sticky dots and then placed on the bottoms of Hershey Kisses.
The morning of the 100th day, these Hershey Kisses were hidden all over the classroom. Of course the teacher desk was "off limits" to help keep the kiddies out of the teacher "stuff." :)
The students were instructed to go find a Kiss and then fill in the product on the 10 x 10 grid that matched their answer. The students were not allowed to claim another Kiss until they filled the spot on the grid. Of course there were repeat answers (9 x 2, 2 x 9, 3 x 6, 6 x 3 all were Kisses with 18 on them), so if their box was taken, they had to figure out another box their answer could fit in. This tripped up a lot of the students, which forced them to use the commutative property of multiplication. Once they wrote their answer on the grid, they would put the
Kiss on their desk and go search for another. Once the grid was filled, we ensured all students had an equal amount of Kisses.
They students enjoyed eating their Kisses while working on their 100 multiplication problems worksheet from Catdogteaches TpT 100th Day Packet. I left the grid they created up on the board and they were allowed to copy answers off onto their worksheet if they needed help. I figured, they created it, so it was a deserved tool.
What special way did/are you celebrating 100 days?
Happy Teaching,
Amber
I absolutely LOVE this idea!!! Thanks for sharing.
