Superfudge by
Judy Blume used to be the first read aloud book I did with my third graders. The past two years I've switched it up and started with
Henry Huggins by
Beverly Cleary,
The Boxcar Children by
Gertrude Chandler Warner,
Chocolate Fever by
Robert Kimmel Smith,
The Chocolate Touch by
Patrick Skene Catling, and
Haunted Castle on Hallows Eve by
Mary Pope Osborne. I love to read books from a series as it motivates my students to read more from the authors I have selected.
We are just a few chapters into this book, and my students are laughing like crazy. (This is one of the reasons I love this book!) They are enjoying Fudge and his antics, as well as identifying with Peter, and watching adorable Tootsie stealing the spotlight. Peter shows compassion as well as frustration; all in which they are familiar with in their own lives!
As always, my creative minds in room 209 are excitedly responding to the story though art and explaining their own point of view. They enjoy becoming illustrators, and making predictions about the characters and story line. Below are a few of their creations after reading chapter 2. This is the chapter where Fudge decides to play Hide-and-Seek with Tootsie as he finds her "boring." If you would like to purchase this literature unit, please check out my creation in my
TpT Store.
Happy Teaching!
