Welcome Back to School Letter

If you're like me, the first thing I do to prepare for the next year is to send a letter to my students. It's nothing too detailed, but just enough to let them know my name and that I care. One of the greatest lessons I learned in college is that communicating with students and parents is vital to create a supportive and respectful classroom. This is my first step in reaching out to my students.

Several teachers handwrite letters or post cards. I'd love to be one of those teachers, but I need something simple. My hand will have enough exercise writing all of their names on nametags, cubby labels, helper cards, and so on!

The best method I have found is to buy cute bordered paper and use a typed letter I can change and personalize with each student's name. The final product is shown in the picture below.

The border on this paper is very large, so the formatting for the letter has very wide margins. I ordered it from Really Good Stuff several years ago, but you can find cute paper at any store that sells stationary. Hallmark always seems to have cute themes.

I have uploaded the file from Google Docs for you to use and change according to your needs. The personalized places have been highlighted so you know exactly where you need to edit. The letter was typed in Word and the font I used is called "Janda Safe and Sound Solid" by Kimberly Geswein. You can download the font for free by clicking here.

I hope this helps you in planning for your new year!
