Another Christmas Read Aloud Book with Activities: A Ghost Tale for Christmas Time

In my last blog, I wrote about the first read aloud book I read with my students, Christmas in Camelot. The second chapter book I am reading for Christmas this year is A Ghost Tale for Christmas Time by Mary Pope Osborne. I had never read this book before this year and was very impressed with the storyline.

Jack and Annie are sent on another Merlin Mission to visit Charles Dickens before he had written A Christmas Carol. This story shows students what it was like for the poor in Victorian England. They see how horribly young children from poor families are treated and why they may have come upon hard times. Jack and Annie help inspire Dickens to write the beloved Christmas story, and even give him his own ghosts from Christmas past, present, and future. This is a great novel to inspire your class to do goodwill. I think we'll even read other books that are centered around A Christmas Carol, or watch the kid version of the holiday.

We have yet to start this book, but I created a literature guide to use while reading the novel. This includes chapter questions, creative chapter response sheets, and printables to use during and after reading the story. Below are sample pages to view if you are interested in purchasing the guide from my TpT Store.

Sidenote: I have been sick for a good two weeks now with the sinus crud everyone seems to have around here. a while back I pinned directions to make "shower bombs" to use in the shower that open up your sinuses. This morning I made them and my house smells wonderful! They have to dry for 12-18 hours, so I haven't been able to try one out but making them with the essential oils really smelled wonderful! You can find the directions here. They were so easy to make!

Happy holidays,
Amber
